8th SOW: Improving Care in New York State Hospitals

Health care provided in hospitals is complex and continuously evolving, showing great variation over time, across regions, and among populations. Under contract with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), IPRO is working with New York State hospitals to promote a vision widely shared by providers throughout the state:

A health care system in which every person receives the right care every time, and one in which hospital staff have the tools and resources to deliver that care.

We know hospitals and other health care providers share this vision. We also know that by offering guidance in implementing proven best practices, IPRO can help New York State providers make this vision a reality.

Partners in Quality

While hospital staff work hard to improve quality of care, they face barriers on a daily basis that may negatively impact care. Staffing issues are common; time and resources are limited. IPRO understands these barriers and is prepared to assist New York State hospitals in achieving transformational change, with the ultimate goal of a health care environment where care is consistently safe, effective, patient-centered, timely, efficient, and equitable.

IPRO is working with New York State hospitals to help identify gaps in care delivery systems, as well as opportunities for creating more efficient and effective care.

As a first step toward transforming quality of care, IPRO is working with a group of highly motivated hospitals that elect to participate in one or more "Identified Participant Groups" (IPGs):

In addition to the four focused IPGs, IPRO is working with acute care hospitals across the state to decrease surgical complications and to increase measurement and reporting of care for acute myocardial infarction, heart failure, pneumonia and surgical infections. New York State critical access hospitals are receiving assistance from IPRO to improve, measure and report on clinical performance measures, some of which will be new for the rural setting.
