As you are aware, IPRO, as the Quality Improvement Organization (QIO) for New York State, conducts long term acute care hospital (LTCH) medical necessity and coding/DRG validation review in accordance with Medicare 8th Scope of Work (SOW) contract deliverables for subtask 3b, the Hospital Payment Monitoring Program (HPMP). Analysis of case review findings for discharges between fiscal year 2004 through January 2005, has found an overall payment error rate of 33% for NYS LTCH. Coding/DRG errors comprised 62% of the cases in error. The remaining denials (38%) were attributed to admission denials.
As a result, IPRO invites your coders/HIM Professionals to participate in an educational conference call and web-based training on June 22, 2006, from 10:30 - 11:30 A.M. (Please see the Attachment page for registration information.)
This LTCH HPMP Coding Workshop will include an overview of coding guidelines, application of coding guidelines and Coding Clinic instructions and an opportunity to discuss examples of specific LTCH coding issues, as identified during QIO review.
Application has been made to the American Health Information Management Association for 3.0 continuing education hours. This presentation satisfies the requirement of the Clinical Data Management educational content area.
Should you have any questions or require additional infromation about the training, please contact Renato Estrella, Director HIM, Medicare/Federal Health Care Assessment at 516-209-5674.
